Pro Wrestling
|
Being bored and with the Hulk Hogan thing still in and out of the news, I got thinking about the "good old days" of my childhood watching something called Stampede Wrestling (which the WWF bought in 1986)
Some of my favourites there were British and I was wondering if people remember Davey Boy Smith (stupid parents explains that middle name) or the Dynamite Kid before they left England.
Barring that whatever wrestling memories people have.

I would recommend the Bret Hitman Hart book , it's a fascinating insight to the industry from someone who really lived it.
Really spills the beans in WWF

Something slightly odd about the way Razor Ramon used to stand there looking triumphant with his "opponent" on his knees with his head stuck between his thighs.

The attitude era was amazing,
the ministry of darkness used to scare the shit out of me, all the bloodbaths and all, then when they revealed vinny mc as the "higher power" who kidnapped his own daughter it blew my mind ha

The technical side of Wrestling always amazes me. how blokes that big can he that agile. And some of the bumps they take are mental. See mick Filey v taker in he'll in a cell. Mental stuff.
There's a new guy (english) called neville who can perform some mental flying stuff

Interesting
A poli-sci prof I had once said that Wrestling was just updated opera for the masses. He gave the example of the Everyman (Mankind) vs. Death (The Undertaker.)

The best thing about any wrester, and one of the best things ever, is that Samuel Becket used to give Andre the Giant a lift to school in the morning. They were both obsessed with cricket and that's why he gave Andre a lift.
